Windows 7 has been released to the world, and gamers everywhere are gearing up for the upgrade, but which version is the right one for gamers?
Well, right off the bat, I can say that Windows 7 Home Premium is off the table. While it's the cheapest version out there, it lacks Windows XP compatibility mode - and for gamers that have been using Windows XP to play their various games, that will be a pretty significant blow.
Windows 7 Ultimate is very flashy, with its black boxart and multiple things it can do that the other versions can't ... but is it worth $200? The only difference between it and Windows 7 professional is the addition of BitLocker - which most people will find useless - and 35 language packs. Yeah, it's pretty difficult to justify the cost of Windows 7 Ultimate.
That leaves us with Windows 7 Professional. While it's $150 for the OEM DVD, it does come with windows XP compatibility mode. Essentially, you'll be paying an extra $50 for this one feature, but it may well be worth it.
Ultimately, I leave the decision up to you. Windows 7 Home Premium is absolutely fine for most users, while Windows 7 Professional includes Windows XP compatibility mode. windows 7 Ultimate is, well, not worth the extra money, in my opinion.
