For the longest time gamers have been drooling over the Intel Core 2 and Core 2 Duo processors. By offering multiple cores inside a single processor package, gamers were able to multiply the performance of their gaming machines, leaving the old single core processors in the dust.
Now, Intel has come out with the Core i7, the successor of the Core 2 Duo. Essentially, the Core i7 is the Core 2 Duo, but it has several differences that put it above and beyond its predecessor:
- Faster clock speeds - the i7 is clocked higher than their Core 2 counterparts, with clock speeds up to 3.2GHz
- Faster bus speeds - the core i7 ditches the old front side bus technology, replacing it with QuickPath, and the performance increase has been impressive so far
- HyperThreading - the Core i7 comes with HyperThreading, and with four cores on every i7 the performance can be compared to having an 8 core processor.
Overall, the Core i7 is a huge upgrade to the overall Intel system.
