Sam writes, "I need toe expand my desktop. The video card I have only has one DVI port, but it performs well enough, and i'm not looking to spend hundreds of collars on a new card that has two DVI ports. Can you recommend a good, cheap multi-monitor video card?"
Finding a good multi-monitor card isn't as difficult as you might imagine. In fact, many multi-monitor cards are are specifically built to be sold in the sub-$100 range, because they're designed for desktop use, not gaming.
The biggest problem with running cheap video cards for dual-monitor purposes is that you're not going to get the best resolution in the world. In fact, the highest resolution in the sub-$100 market available is 2560x1600. Divide that by two monitors and you have a maximum resolution of 1280x800 per monitor - not the best resolution in the world, but it does expand your desktop to two monitors.
If you have a spare PCI-Express x16 slot then I highly recommend the EVGA GeForce 9400 GT with 1GB of video memory. With its dual DVI-D ports, you'll be able to run two monitors off of it without a lot of problems. At $55, it's a steal.
