Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard Review

Yesterday we reviewed the Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard and found that while it's a great gaming keyboard, the features and the price just don't add up. Today we're looking at it's less-costly sibling, the G11 Gaming Keyboard.

Unlike it's big brother, the G11 doesn't have an LCD screen. Instead, the media keys are moved over to the center to fill the void that the LCD screen left. Other than that, this is a nearly identical keyboard.

The G11 has the same 18 macro keys (which we loved on the 2007 G15, and the 2009 G19), three "quick swap" macro buttons (allowing you to swap out the 18 keys with a different set of pre-programmed commands), and three levels of back lighting.

Like its bigger brother, the G11 "feels" like a solid keyboard. The keys don't "click" like an old-school IBM keyboard, but the every time you press the keys they don't feel like they're suddenly going to break off (a problem with low-end keyboards). The G11 also have a good size. My larger hands were able to find every key easily, and positioning them at the magic WSAD spot was comfortable.

One thing I don't like about the G11 and the G19 is the backlight - it's way too bright. While you can control the backlight level somewhat, in the darkest of rooms, you may find that the backlight is actually very annoying. As far as backlights are concerned, that's not a terrible problem to have, though, as we've seen several backlit keyboards that were far too dim.

What the G11 lacks in an LCD screen it makes up for in its price tag. Unlike the hundreds of dollars you'll spend o the G19, the G11 Gaming Keyboard costs just under $60. Yes, it's a hefty price tag as far as keyboards are concerned, but it's in the same high end range as other expensive keyboards, and the G11 is built to last.
