Sami has a quick question today, "How much hard drive space do I realistically need? I play a lot of games, but I don't use them all of the time."
If you're only going to use your gaming computer to play games, then you can realistically get away with only a few hundred Gigabytes of data storage. Of course, realistically, you're going to use your computer for a lot more than gaming, including:
- Music
- Movies
- Chat (IM and voice)
- Web browsing
- Word processing
- File sharing
- etc ...
There are other factors when buying lots of hard drive space. In particular: magnetic storage is downright cheap. You can buy a 500GB hard drive for as little as $50, while 1 Terabyte hard drives can cost around $90.
So, while you only, realistically, need a few hundred Gigabytes to store all of your games, you're better off - economically and technologically - buying more space so you can not only play your games, but also store all of your digital stuff.
